( 2019/2020 -- New Emerson Staff)
New Emerson School was started in 1993 as a small K-2 school in Mesa County Valley School District #51 in Western Colorado. It has grown, and it is now a K-5 public magnet school with a STEAM/STEM magnet focus. The majority of the staff members have anywhere between 10 and 30 years of teaching experience each. They all love teaching and learning and bring something special to New Emerson daily.

Terry Schmalz is the principal and teacher-leader of New Emerson. She has worked at the school since it began, first as a teacher, and soon after as the administrator. She has more than 30 years experience as an educator and loves what she does.

Our Fabulous, Extraordinary, New Emerson Learners!

Our K-5 students come from all over the Grand Junction community. They are chosen at random through a lottery process each February. To schedule a tour of our school and/or find out how to put your child in the lottery, please contact our school administrative assistant Tina Lane @ tina.lane@d51schools.org
